The Pazyryk culture is known for its elaborate animal-style art, ornate horse gear, and intricately preserved long barrows (or kurgans) similar to the tomb mounds found in the wider Scythian culture in Ukraine. However, few know much about the early discoveries of the Pazyryk culture and the research that has been done over the past century. In this article, I will address the history of the Pazyryk culture, where it was located, and one of its most defining features, its animal style art.
