1 Introduction Fluvial sediment transport plays an essential role in various morphological processes, the quality of river habitats and many social activities related to river management. Suspended sediment particles are transported with the water flow, with fine particles (those with a diameter less than 63 μm) remaining in suspension due to the opposing forces of gravity and turbulence (van Rijn 1984b).
