On Tuesday, I celebrated my first full day living back in the Palisades. That evening, we took a stroll through our new neighborhood: the El Medio bluffs. It’s a place we’ve explored before through friends who lived there, Pali High drop-off traffic and pandemic walks. But now it’s ours. I know this might sound insensitive but since I lived through this with you, I’m going to say it anyway. As a fan of apocalyptic movies, zombie shows and doomsday scenarios, walking the streets was kinda cool.

Our Removal of Invasive Plants team has noticed significant brush clearance lately along Temescal Canyon Road. It’s bittersweet. For those who are new to our work, our team does not simply “clear brush.” We selectively remove invasive plants while protecting native plants whenever possible. That’s an important distinction.

A neighbor recently wrote to me after reading my article in the Palisadian-Post about my mom’s house. She was kind and thoughtful, but she also said something that made me wince. When we write about returning to particulates in the air and constant construction, are we making our town sound undesirable at the exact moment we’re trying to bring it back? I hear that. No one who loves the Palisades wants to hurt the Palisades. No one wants to scare people away.
