Highlights Leprdb/db female display increased cardiac mast cell activation. Cardiac mast cell activation participates in the development of cardiac small vessel disease, notably via histamine release. Cardiac mast cell activation participate in the development of diastolic dysfunction. Mast cell stabilizer or H1 receptor antagonist may be used to prevent the occurrence of diastolic dysfunction in the setting of type diabetes and obesity.
