Pull up the baggage carousel at any major international airport and you will see a parade of soft-shell fabric or hard-shell plastic cases, most of them a muted color palette, most of them indistinguishable from one another, most of them showcasing the abuse of frequent travel (a massive scratch here, ripped fabric there, disintegrated airline stickers, cracked wheels that creak when dragged). That is the baseline the travel industry has accepted for decades.
