I decided to become a journalist after seeing problems in my community recur because no one outside of the community knew those problems existed. I am passionate about telling unheard stories, and I actively seek voices that are being excluded from the conversation.

I am currently finishing my BA in journalism with minors in creative writing and Spanish at American University (expected May 2021). After graduating, I look forward to being a full-time storyteller.

Billionaire Wiliam Koch’s industrial facility in Port Arthur, Texas, will voluntarily install pollution controls after decades of community pressure, a federal civil rights complaint and a lawsuit accusing the facility of gaming clean air laws. The 90-year-old Oxbow plant is a notorious polluter even in Port Arthur, an industrial city of about 56,000 known for foul air.
