Sayan Mukherjee Mohun Bagan Super Giant have urged the All India Football Federation to acknowledge players having Overseas Citizenship of India card as domestic players, which would encourage Indian Super League clubs to bring them onboard for the upcoming season. AIFF wants one OCI player to be in the starting XI of top-tier ISL but majority of the 14 clubs remain apprehensive to the idea for several factors including escalating costs and inadequate talent pool.

ISL clubs apprehensive of AIFF’s proposal on OCI/PIO quota

Photo: @IndSuperLeague Most Indian Super League clubs are circumspect of the All India Football Federation‘s decision of incorporating an OCI/PIO player in playing XI of teams for the forthcoming 2026-27 season. At least 12 of the 14 clubs are willing to thumb it down following AIFF‘s proposal of including one player of OCI/PIO quota in the line-up apart from three foreigners that was approved at its special general meeting on Saturday.
