1 Introduction Salmonids are cold water-adapted species whose health, behaviour and life cycles are strongly dependent on water temperature (Jonsson and Jonsson 2009). As such, they rely on specific temperature conditions to thrive, which will vary depending on their life stage (Breau et al. 2007; Jonsson and Jonsson 2009), as well as their local environment (position within the catchment, within their habitat range, etc.; for example, Armstrong and Schindler 2013).
