Alpine challenges Monaco GP result over pit penalties

Alpine is challenging the result of Formula 1's Monaco Grand Prix by requesting a review of the penalties applied for pitlane speed that cost its driver Pierre Gasly a podium. Gasly was one of many drivers punished for tiny speeding offences in Monaco, with six penalties - two of them incurred by Gasly - during the race after a variety of fines in practice sessions. Gasly was just 0.1km/h and 0.4km/h over the 60km/h limit in his infractions.

The spate of speeding penalties that impacted several drivers in Formula 1's Monaco Grand Prix and cost Pierre Gasly a podium were likely a result of drivers effectively cutting the pitlane once they were in it. Five drivers including second-place runner Lewis Hamilton and championship contender George Russell were awarded five-second time penalties for speeding in the pitlane.

Verstappen ruled out of Monaco GP immediately

Max Verstappen retired from the Monaco Grand Prix on the opening lap after his Red Bull Formula 1 engine ‘broke’ already on the formation lap. Verstappen barely moved from second on the grid when the Monaco race began, and was fortunately missed as the entire field came past him. He was at least able to move the car slightly out of the way to the left before getting going at enough speed to bring the car all the way back into the pits to retire.
