What was your first job as a journalist?
My first real experience as a journalist is my time at the Pasadena City College Courier, which is 100% for credit and not paid.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, but not for news. I've gone fully digital for that. No need for paper!
How is social media changing news?
Social media has changed news, because its everywhere instead of just in the newspaper the next morning. We have a 25 hour news cycle now.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Kent Brockman and Ron Burgundy.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Email is the best way to reach me, unless it is urgent, give me a ring.
What's your favorite social network?
None. They're all pretty sucky! :(
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
The article I think that I feel that way about is absolutely the investigation into the Aquatic Center at Pasadena City College.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Write, write, interview, research and write some more! Also listen to your editors! You will get better, but it does take some time.
When's the best time to pitch you?
I don't have a preference. I'll either get back to you or not. :)
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Haven't gotten one yet, but I'm sure I will.
What's your favorite drink?
Mango juice and Spindrift (as of late)
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
When I'm not at the computer I'm likely to be on my bike, hiking, drawing or reading a book...
