Indonesia has birthed some of the most exciting voices in genre cinema in recent years, few of whom have enjoyed as much of an international breakout as Joko Anwar. Anwar’s latest film, Ghost in the Cell, recently took home the Horror Competition jury award at Fantastic Fest, recognizing the gory, action-packed, twistedly funny prison-set ghost story as one of this year’s coolest genre pictures.

If you’re a horror fan, you probably know the Adams Family (not to be confused with The Addams Family) — the family of independent horror filmmakers putting out some of the coolest micro-budget work there is. Their latest film, The Glorious Dead, is arguably their most ambitious outing yet, following a small-town sheriff unearthing a mystery in the wake of the Rapture.

Death of a Yellow Bird premiered at Fantastic Fest as one of the most acclaimed films of the festival, earning a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. And this should come as no surprise, considering that it’s from the same team behind A24’s low-budget breakout from earlier this year, undertone.
