Notre Dame's 27-24 season opening loss had a little bit of everything. From quarterback CJ Carr, right guard Guerby Lambert and defensive end Bryce Young all making their first career starts to the Irish falling behind by two touchdowns and Carr engineering a late comeback touchdown drive. Carr threw his first two career touchdown passes and scored his first TD as well. While the redshirt freshman threw for 221 yards in his debut, he also threw his first interception (after three deflections).

Carr threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran for another while helping the Irish overcome a pair of second half double digit deficits, but the No. 6 Irish came up short in a 27-24 road loss to No. 10 Miami.

As Notre Dame gets set to open its 2025 football season at Miami Sunday night, head coach Marcus Freeman knows his Fighting Irish will do so with the least experienced quarterback at the helm in more than a decade. Redshirt freshman CJ Carr will become the first Irish quarterback since Everett Golson in 2012 (vs Navy in Ireland) to make his first career start in a season opener.
