What was your first job as a journalist?
My first paid gig was an interview for Monocle 24 radio, about a book called "What I know about Running Coffee Shops"

Something is news when it isn't on social media. Its marketing.

Why did you become a journalist?
From being a tech enthusiast I suppose. I was really interested in the disruption to the media in the 2000's and kind of slipped into it.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Probably the piece I did for the Irish Times. I did reporting for that. I went from one contact to another over the phone from people.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
All it takes is an idea and an email address. I learned this late.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?
How to safely use you left over Christmas turkey. A producer I worked booked this for a 15 minute interview and I was presenting it.
What's your favorite drink?
Processo or Whiskey or Gin and Tonic or maybe a Aperol Sprintz. Thats a hard one.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Honestly its Monocle. The fantasy that is produced between the pages was seducive and the global outlook I was looking for as a teen.
