A series of ruthenium complexes, mainly Grubbs- and Hoveyda–Grubbs-type catalysts, along with a variety of σ-donor additives, were employed in dehydrogenative alcohol coupling (DAC) reactions to selectively convert primary aliphatic alcohols into carboxylic acids and Guerbet alcohols.
