How to Set the “Chirality” of Polyhedral Small Molecule Hydrocarbons: Decoration and Editing of Cubane Skeleton
1 Introduction The cubic hydrocarbon, cubane, represented by the molecular formula C8H8, is a saturated hydrocarbon synthesized by Prof. Eaton in 1964. It unveiled a molecular shape and properties inconceivable by conventional knowledge of saturated hydrocarbons composed from tetrahedral sp3 carbon units.1, 2 Despite its significant strain, the cubane framework is thermally stable.
