WHAT IS THE CURRENT KNOWLEDGE ON THE TOPIC? Genetic variation is a major source of individual differences in drug efficacy and safety. Personalized therapy based on genotypes can optimize drug outcomes by reducing adverse events (AEs) and maximizing efficacy. WHAT QUESTION DID THIS STUDY ADDRESS? This study investigated how much benefit pre-emptive genotyping can provide by reducing AEs and maximizing efficacy. The optimal strategy for implementing pre-emptive genotyping was also investigated.
