1 Introduction Olfactory dysfunction (OD) affects millions of people worldwide and may result from viral infections like COVID-19, chronic rhinosinusitis, head trauma and neurodegenerative conditions [1]. Patients with OD often experience alterations in the perception of flavour and modifications of eating habits, insecurity in social interactions and accidents caused by the inability to detect odours signalling threats, such as smoke or leaking gas [2, 3].
