I remember all of the Christmases I have had since I was seven. I was seven years old when I was in Class One or Grade One for the CBC parents in the house (I still cannot get my head around those changes). If I tell you which year it was, you just might figure out how old I am and I have been trying to stay vague about that fact for a very long time. Also, the year is very irrelevant. I just remember that Christmas because it was the year I began to take Christmas seriously.

I keep telling people about how my recollection of events from the past three years has been a little blurry. I think I tell as many people who will care to listen to me that I can no longer tell apart what happened in 2020, 2021 and 2022. If I didn’t know any better, I would say that they were all a single year or two years mashed together. Of course, the most notable thing that happened in 2020 was the beginning of the pandemic. That one is very clear in my brain.

If you have not noticed by now, the holidays have arrived. If you have not noticed, then you need to pay more attention. The streets in almost all neighbourhoods are crawling with children looking for ways to pass time. The very long holidays that we used to have back in the day before Covid-19 came and distorted our collective sense of time and reality.
