Joe Biden isn't a handshake business partner on the border
- - OPINION: I ran a business for 37, growing it from a small company into a national leader with locations across the United States. Over the thousands of deals I made in that time, I looked for business partners that had one thing in common: I could shake their hand and know they would keep their word. Joe Biden has proven he is not a handshake business partner on the border, and Republicans should remember that when striking any border deal with him and his lawless administration.
Biden sides with radical climate lobby over retail investors
President Joe Biden just issued his first veto on a bipartisan, bicameral Congressional Review Act measure that we championed in Congress to protect middle-class investors saving for retirement. He did so at a time when people are increasingly unable to retire. One in 5, including 1 in 3 baby boomers, has no retirement savings.
Congress should be wary of labor agency’s plea for more cash
The National Labor Relations Board is asking Congress for more money in the government’s next spending bill , but there is nothing to suggest that additional funding would help the agency better serve employees and job creators.
Biden to sign NDAA ending military's COVID-19 vaccine mandate this week
President Joe Biden will sign the National Defense Authorization Act "this week," the White House said on Monday, resulting in the end of the Pentagon's coronavirus vaccine mandate. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed during Monday's briefing that Biden will sign the annual Department of Defense funding bill "later this week," though she didn't provide more details on exactly when.
If Title 42 ends, Biden’s broken border will only get worse
Open-borders activists may construe immigration laws to fit their agendas, but those who see the need for a secure border work to uphold those laws. One regulation that finds itself caught in partisan crosshairs is Title 42, a COVID-19 public health authority used to swiftly turn back migrants at the southern border that, if ended, will further erode our nation’s border and sovereignty.
Before Democrats blame Republicans for Pelosi attack, we need some answers
Under normal circumstances, we wouldn’t feel the need to question what happened inside House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ’s San Francisco home last Friday. But now that Democrats have assigned responsibility for David DePape’s brutal hammer attack on Paul Pelosi to MAGA Republicans, this strange incident has become our business. And like any defendant, we are entitled to some answers. First, Democrats need to explain why they are tying the actions of a mentally ill, drug-addicted madman to us.
Energy markets remind us that free markets work
This week, President Joe Biden called on Congress to punish oil companies with higher taxes on their high-price generated profits. Consumers are understandably unhappy with these prices. In turn, loud political persuasion tends to carry the day one week before highly contested midterm elections . Biden would nonetheless be wise to give energy markets more patience and perhaps even a pat on the back.
Ohio voters should not be fooled by Tim Ryan’s third-trimester abortion limit
Congressman Tim Ryan , now running for a Senate seat from Ohio, recently came out in support of the smallest of limits on abortion — a prohibition in the third trimester. Ryan is taking this position because he is in a tight race against the pro-life Republican candidate J.D. Vance . Ryan hopes to pick off enough moderate and independent voters to win. But Ohio voters should not be fooled. Ryan was once a pro-life congressman but switched positions in 2016.
Don't vote for someone who will claim victory regardless of the result
A guiding principle that everyone should adopt when deciding who to vote for in Tuesday's midterm elections (and every other election, for that matter)? Don’t vote for anyone who you know beforehand would refuse to accept that they lost. If you know beforehand that a given candidate would never admit defeat, perhaps instead insisting that the election was stolen , then you know that candidate is not genuinely concerned with the truth.
Biden’s ironic Union Station speech shows why Republicans will win big next week
Less than a week before the midterm elections, President Joe Biden took to the podium to give one of the most divisive and ugliest speeches I’ve seen given by a sitting president. As Republican candidates surge around the country because voters trust the GOP more on rising crime, the economy, and inflation, Biden shouted angrily at half the country from Washington’s Union Station. The irony of giving this tone-deaf speech from Union Station is obvious.
Another year brings more autocratic victories over the democratic members of Interpol
The most recent annual meeting of Interpol’s governing body brought more bad news for its democratic member states, including the U.S. Interpol’s General Assembly concluded on Oct. 21. Interpol is still governed by a committee on which stable democracies are in the minority, it is still kowtowing to China over Taiwan, and is still refusing to sanction its most abusive members like Russia while failing to address many of the actual challenges it faces.
Midterms 2022 updates: Biden to head to New York to help ailing Hochul
Media mogul Oprah Winfrey endorsed Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman over GOP challenger Dr. Mehmet Oz, a celebrity doctor-turned-candidate whose television career she helped launch. Oz appeared regularly on Winfrey's popular talk show before he headlined The Dr. Oz Show, a program that focused on health and wellness and was co-produced by Winfrey's Harpo Productions. Fetterman's camp had been trying to score a Winfrey endorsement for months, knowing the weight it would carry.
US military entering ‘window of maximum danger’
Rep. Mike Gallagher is one of the strongest voices in Congress advocating a robust U.S. military capable of confronting China and defending American interests around the world. The Princeton University graduate was first elected in 2016 to represent Wisconsin's 8th Congressional District, covering Green Bay and the Badger State's northeastern realm.
House GOP promises energy policy change if party wins majority in midterm elections
House Republicans , equipped with the political battering ram of high fuel prices , are hoping to win voters over on Nov. 8 by promising to command an energy policy turnabout in Washington if voters award the party control of the chamber. The Democrats scored a major legislative victory in August with the enactment of the Inflation Reduction Act, including provisions to make alternative energy sources cheaper and more abundant and to help displace demand for fossil fuels.
American counterintelligence is broken
Every few days, a new counterintelligence story breaks in the media. It's invariably a bad one. Another penetration of U.S. intelligence by a hostile spy service, another cache of industrial secrets lost, more theft of valuable intellectual property. Our national inability to safeguard our governmental and trade secrets is, alas, no secret.
Biden’s student loan debt transfer is an abuse of executive power
Last week, President Joe Biden, without authorization from Congress, announced he plans to transfer roughly $500 billion worth of student loan debt from the borrowers who took out the loans to hardworking taxpayers across the country. Other presidents, Republicans and Democrats, have attempted to overstep their authority, and we have never been shy about criticizing them.
Oppose Kotagal for EEOC chief
Within the next few weeks, the U.S. Senate will consider a nomination that could have deep impact on West Virginia and Indiana businesses and their employees. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is one of those Washington, D.C., agencies that could, through overregulation and interference, disrupt American business and put jobs in danger.

GOP voters are the only ones who can send Trump packing
Former President Donald Trump is not likely to go to prison. Nor is he likely to be prosecuted for the events surrounding Jan. 6, 2021. Confident claims to the contrary are the product of Twitter resistance fever swamp fantasies. Those offering such arguments either don’t understand the optics of former Supreme Court nominee-turned-Attorney General Merrick Garland indicting a former president who prevented him from sitting on the highest court. Perhaps Rep.
Op-Ed: High prices are on Hoosiers’ minds on my 92 County Tour
Hoosiers know what’s best for our state, not out of touch Washington bureaucrats. White House caved to the radical Left on Title 42
President Joe Biden removed all doubt this week: The crisis on our southern border is due to his weakness, and far-Left activists truly are running the White House. Biden’s administration announced this week that it will repeal Title 42, a Trump-era immigration policy, by the end of May. Title 42 is a public health order, originally recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, that allows United States Border Patrol to turn away migrants at the border.
GETTING RESULTS: Senator Braun tops list of most bills passed into law this session
WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Mike Braun tops the list of most bills passed by a lawmaker last year according to a new accounting by Axios. Despite being in the minority party, Senator Braun sponsored three bills that were enacted into law so far in the 117th Congress (the two year session of the U.S. Congress, starting in 2021) – giving him the most bills signed into law this session of any Republican member of Congress.
Biden's Labor Department is back to targeting job creators
Job creators rely on their workers daily. They have every incentive to ensure their employees are supported. The ruling class at the Department of Labor and the National Labor Relations Board disagree with this, as evidenced by the agencies’ recent announcement that big government enforcement is back. DOL’s Wage and Hour Division and the NLRB recently put employers on notice that the full force of the federal government is coming for them.
Biden promised no vaccine mandates; the Senate will vote to overturn his private employee mandate
The coronavirus vaccines developed under the Trump administration’s “Operation Warp Speed” are medical miracles, but the decision to get vaccinated should be a personal health choice. It shouldn’t be up to President Joe Biden. A year ago this week, Biden said of the COVID-19 vaccines , “I don’t think they should be mandatory. I wouldn’t demand it to be mandatory.” Then he went back on his word, mandating vaccines for private sector employees.
SENS. LANKFORD And BRAUN: Biden Is Forcing American Families To Bend Until They Break
In early September, an annoyed and impatient President Biden gave a speech on the state of COVID-19 in which he said Americans were testing his patience by not lining up to receive their COVID-19 vaccine. That day, he announced a vaccine mandate on our military, federal employees, federal contractors, all health care workers and everyone who works in a company with 100 or more employees — in other words, most Americans.
Promising Pathway Act offers hope for those suffering from deadly diseases
More than 5,600 Americans are diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis each year–meaning 15 Americans are diagnosed with ALS each day. Because this disease is terminal and patients decline so quickly, there is no ALS survivor community. Those who are diagnosed with ALS and other devastating disease as well as their loved ones, rely on members of the Congress and others to advocate on their behalf.
Democrats will pass the PRO Act by any means necessary
Though the PRO Act lacks sufficient Democratic support to pass the Senate through regular order, employers and workers should be on guard for those pushing the PRO Act to enact its anti-worker, anti-small business reforms by any means necessary. Their first attempt will be to force portions of the PRO Act into Senate Democrats’ partisan reconciliation bill this fall.
Why I oppose the radical 'Equality Act'
Over the past few years, many extreme social beliefs have become mainstream on the political Left, such as the beliefs that an individual becomes a certain gender when he or she decides to identify as such and that children should be able to receive puberty-blocking pharmaceuticals to prepare them for sex-change surgery. These beliefs are no longer at the fringe of liberal ideology.
Sen. Mike Braun: It's about election integrity, not overturning election results
The media has fundamentally failed the public by refusing to investigate any question about the integrity of widespread mail-in voting in the 2020 election and by dismissing all concern over documented election irregularities as conspiracy theories. Asking questions about how millions of mail-in ballots were verified and processed is not sour grapes over an election loss. I agree with President Trump that whomever is affirmed by the Electoral College should take office on Jan. 20.
Congress needs an aggressive approach to fix prescription drug market
I believe Congress must take an aggressive approach to fixing the nation’s broken prescription drug market. It is opaque and complex. There’s nothing free market about it, except that drugmakers are free to set whatever prices they want. The market is dependent on things like government-sanctioned rebates and monopolies created by Food and Drug Administration exclusivities and patent abuse.

Joe Biden owes steelworkers a straight answer
While Joe Biden’s limited public appearances may help his campaign hide some of his gaffes, his invite-only campaign also serves to hide something far more dangerous to American workers: his desire to reverse President Trump’s tariffs on steel and aluminum. In May, the Biden campaign answered a series of questions posed by the United Steel Workers. Despite leading decades of failed trade policy in the Senate and as vice president, Biden has learned nothing.
Sen. Braun: Time to come together, enact common sense police reform
Sen. Mike Braun, For the Journal & Courier Published 6:26 p.m. ET June 10, 2020 U.S. Sen. Mike Braun (Photo: Robert Franklin/South Bend Tribune via AP) It was heartbreaking to watch the murder of George Floyd and equally painful to watch peaceful protests be hijacked by agitators who turned to rioting, violence and looting towards business – many were minority-owned – who were not remotely involved in this tragedy in Minneapolis.
Our way of life depends on affordable, 21st century cures
When it comes to treatments and lifesaving cures, the U.S. healthcare system is second to none. This is why, when a loved one receives a cancer diagnosis, or a parent is told her child has diabetes, we can bear such unsettling news with a sense of hope. However, we constantly hear from constituents who are struggling to afford their prescription medicines. The current drug pricing regime is leaving too many people behind.
Sen. Mike Braun: Dr. Tom Coburn was the great outsider
While I was running for the Senate, I was often asked who my heroes in the Senate were. The first name that came to mind every time was Dr. Tom Coburn. As a legislator, Coburn was a force of nature. A conservative stalwart who stood by his principles no matter the pressure and with whoever would stand with him regardless of party, Coburn’s entire career was a profile in courage.
Sen. Mike Braun: A reflection on my first year as your U.S. senator
As my first year of serving Hoosiers in the U.S. Senate comes to an end, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the past year of getting results for the people of our great state. This year, I traveled to all 92 counties speaking to Hoosiers about the issues that are most important to them. I spent the last 37 years of my life building my business, watching politicians in Washington with no clue what it was like in the real world.

Let’s find a middle-ground solution on drug importation
Since leaving my nearly 40-year career of building a business in my hometown to serve Indiana in the U.S. Senate, people often ask me to name the biggest difference between the private sector and the government. The answer is simple: It’s the pace. In the business world, those who are slow to act and adapt find themselves out of business in a hurry. In Washington, it can take 10 years to get even a good idea across the finish line.
BRAUN: Highlights from Hoosier Solutions Tour
This August, I set out on my Summer of Solutions tour, traveling Indiana and visiting over 50 communities to speak with businesses and Hoosiers to discuss what’s most important to them and to discuss solutions for the issues affecting Hoosiers every day, like healthcare, opioid addiction, jobs, education, and the national debt.

Health care needs transparency, and President Trump is making progress
My prime focus for my first six months in Washington has been to bring transparency to our opaque and misaligned U.S. health care market. President Donald Trump recently invited me to the White House to participate in the signing of his executive order that will push the health care industry to be much more transparent when it comes to actual pricing and quality, putting Americans in the driver’s seat and significantly lowering the cost of health care.

Sen. Mike Braun: Despite gridlock, Congress has a real solution to address the border crisis
When I arrived in Washington, the government was shut down due to the humanitarian and security crisis on our southern border. Six months later, as Democrats refuse to address this emergency, the crisis has deteriorated to the point that even the New York Times is urging Congress to take action before we run out of money to address this humanitarian disaster at the border.
SEN. BRAUN: Congress Needs To Back America’s Workers And Approve Trump’s Trade Deal
4:00 PM 06/04/2019 | Opinion Sen. Mike Braun | Indiana The last time Congress meaningfully debated trade between our two North American partners, the Buffalo Bills had just lost their third consecutive Super Bowl and Mrs. Doubtfire was in theaters. In 1993, very few Americans had a cellphone, and no one had ever heard of buying a book on Amazon. This is why President Donald J. Trump decided to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

Breaking my silence to protect life
It’s a centuries-long tradition that freshman senators abstain from speaking on the Senate floor for months to several years before delivering their so-called “maiden speech.” After watching Democrats propose or pass laws to legalize abortion up to the moment of birth and considering Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s recent comments about denying life-saving medical care to children born alive after failed late-term abortions, my core convictions moved me to speak up for the unborn.
