With the latest “enlargement package” presented by the European Commission in November, the EU is continuing on the geopolitical enlargement track it has charted since admitting Ukraine and Moldova as candidate countries in July 2022 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February. The commission has now recommended beginning accession negotiations with them and granting candidate status to Georgia.
