Interpreting mammalian synonymous site conservation in light of the unwanted transcript hypothesis - Nature Communications
Abstract Mammalian genomes are biased towards GC bases at third codon positions, likely due to a GC-biased ancestral genome and the selectively neutral recombination-related process of GC-biased gene conversion. The unwanted transcript hypothesis posits that this high GC content at synonymous sites may be beneficial for protecting against spurious transcripts, particularly in species with low effective population sizes.
Unraveling the Genetics of Shared Clinical and Serological Manifestations in Patients With Systemic Inflammatory Autoimmune Diseases
INTRODUCTION Systemic inflammatory autoimmune diseases (SIADs) such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), primary Sjögren disease (pSS), and idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (myositis) are chronic heterogeneous rare conditions in which inflammation and the primary pathogenic events can be restricted to different organ systems and co-occur with specific serological profiles.1-3 Patients with SIADs show remarkable similarities, such as overexpression of type I interferon (IFN)–regulated...
In sickness and health - a questionnaire based study regarding immune mediated diseases and neoplasia in Swedish Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers - Acta Veterinaria Scandinavica
The target group consisted of all dog owners in Sweden having an NSDTR or that had previously owned a NSDTR. The sampling frame was dog owners registered as owning a NSDTR and having an email address registered at the Swedish Kennel Club (SKK) or the Swedish Board of Agriculture (SJV). A questionnaire-based survey was designed using the web platform Netigate (Netigate AB, Stockholm, Sweden).
Interpreting mammalian evolutionary constraint at synonymous sites in light of the unwanted transcript hypothesis
Abstract The unwanted transcript hypothesis presents a potential explanation for cryptic evolutionary constraint at synonymous sites in species with low effective population sizes, such as humans and other mammals. Selection for higher GC content and against mutations that alter splicing in native transcripts is predicted to shape synonymous site content and protect against unwanted transcripts. Here, we interpret mammalian synonymous site constraint in this context.

Contribution of Rare Genetic Variation to Disease Susceptibility in a Large Scandinavian Myositis Cohort
Abstract Objective Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) are a heterogeneous group of complex autoimmune conditions characterized by inflammation in skeletal muscle and extramuscular compartments, and interferon (IFN) system activation.
