Skeeter Syndrome With Bullous Lesions
A man in his mid-60s presented to the allergy clinic for progressively worsening cutaneous reactions to arthropod bites during the last 7 years. His history was notable for marginal zone B-cell lymphoma treated with R-CHOP (rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin hydrochloride [hydroxydaunorubicin], vincristine sulfate [Oncovin], and prednisone), with subsequent surveillance imaging demonstrating stable disease.

Predictors Of Seroconversion Following COVID-19 Vaccination
Rationale It is critical to identify the risk factors associated with lack of seroconversion following COVID-19 vaccination. Here we sought to identify the demographic and clinical characteristics associated with a negative spike antibody response after completion of a SARS-CoV-2 vaccination series. Methods Demographic and clinical data were collected from subjects who had a validated antibody assay against the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein >=14 days after completing their COVID-19 vaccination.
Pragya Shrestha, MD Ashmita Siwakoti, MD Sergio Chiarella, MD DOI:https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jaci.2021.12.311 Asthma is associated with an increased risk of infections. However, the rate of hospitalizations for serious infections among children with asthma is not well studied. We examined trends in hospitalizations for serious infections in asthma from 2001-2014 using the National Inpatient Sample (NIS).
Sex differences in antibody responses to the 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccination
There are profound sex-based differences in both humoral and cellular immune responses to vaccination [1]. In general, adult females demonstrate higher antibody responses to bacterial and viral vaccines than men [2]. For instance, adult females vaccinated with half the dose of the trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV) produce similar humoral immune responses than adult males vaccinated with a full dose of the TIV [3].
Sex, Cells, and Asthma
Abstract There are marked sex differences in asthma prevalence and severity. Sex hormones play a central role in these sex biases and directly interact with multiple key cells involved in the pathogenesis of asthma. Here we review the known effects of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone on airway epithelial cells, airway smooth muscle cells, the mononuclear phagocyte system, innate lymphoid cells, eosinophils, mast cells, T cells, and B cells, all in the context of asthma.

Gene expression of TMEM178 , which encodes a negative regulator of NFATc1, decreases with the progression of asthma severity
Letter to the Editor Open Access Published: 08 August 2019 Naiya B. Patel1, Lorena A. Ostilla1, Lyda Cuervo-Pardo2, Sergejs Berdnikovs1 & Sergio E. Chiarella ORCID: orcid.org/0000-0002-0445-49291 Clinical and Translational Allergyvolume 9, Article number: 38 (2019) | Download Citation Abstract In two independent microarray studies involving primary airway epithelial cells, the relative gene expression of TMEM178 decreases with the progression of asthma severity.
Immune deficiency in chronic rhinosinusitis: screening and treatment
Introduction: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a prevalent disease with a high annual cost of treatment. Immune deficiencies are more common in individuals with CRS and should be especially considered in those patients who are refractory to medical and surgical therapy. Areas covered: We performed a literature search in PubMed of the terms “immunodeficiency” and “sinusitis” or “rhinosinusitis” from 2006 through March 2016.
