For Mother’s Day, we asked our Letterboxd crew and contributors to write about their favorite moms in cinema history. While we couldn’t all pick Mabel Longhetti in A Woman Under the Influence nor Alice Hyatt in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, our selections range from stepmoms to godmothers, from Cher to Sigourney, from singing nuns to wives with knives—four of us chose John Waters characters! But the most common thread woven throughout the selections is the appreciation for flawed mothers.

Suzanne Somers dead: Three’s Company star dies at 76 after cancer battle

Actress Suzanne Somers died Sunday at the age of 76, following a lengthy battle with cancer. The Three's Company actress died early Sunday morning, the day before her 77th birthday, according to her longtime publicist, R. Couri Hay. JEFF LANDRY FLIPS LOUISIANA GOVERNOR'S MANSION IN FIRST GOP WIN IN EIGHT YEARS "Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years," Hay said.
