1 INTRODUCTION Intermuscular adipose tissue (IMAT), an ectopic fat deposition beneath the deep fascia of the muscle, is observed in various conditions including aging (Song et al., 2004), obesity, insulin resistance (Therkelsen et al., 2013), chronic kidney disease (Gamboa et al., 2020), and type 2 diabetes (Bittel et al., 2015; Hilton et al., 2008).

1 INTRODUCTION Hypertension is an important public health problem with a growing incidence, mortality, and morbidity in Türkiye and worldwide.1, 2 The most effective means of reducing hypertension-related morbidity and mortality lies in correct diagnosis and patient staging using an accurate blood pressure (BP) measurement technique. Hypertension is still diagnosed on the basis of office BP measurements.

Introduction Protein energy wasting (PEW) is highly prevalent in patients undergoing maintenance haemodialysis (MHD) and is a strong predictor of morbidity and mortality.1 A multitude of factors predispose all patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) to PEW, including decreased dietary intake, increased catabolism induced by uraemia and kidney replacement therapies, and metabolic abnormalities resulting in altered nutrition utilization.
