As students attempt to conquer the new bus systems and understand bike lanes in University Avenue, keep in mind some of these dos and don’ts of Madison’s public transportation modes. Do use the bike lanes. Bikers should learn and follow the rules of the road as detailed in this City of Madison guide.

As a tumultuous season for the Badgers wraps up, the team will try to understand why the results were so disappointing. Men’s basketball beat writer Seth Kruger has some ideas of his own. I watched plenty of Badger basketball this season. A turbulent year full of losing streaks, injuries and only occasional bounce-back wins saw Wisconsin finish at a mediocre 20-16 (9-11 in the Big Ten). Most games, both wins and losses, were decided by fine scoring margins.

The Mean Green came back from a 14-point deficit to end an unfavorable season for the Badgers.

Badgers fall short of miraculous comeback against Ohio State in Big Ten tourney
In the first game of the 2023 Big Ten tournament, the Wisconsin men’s basketball team (17-14, 8-12 Big Ten) took on Ohio State (14-18, 5-15) in Chicago. The Buckeyes torched the Badgers early and carried an 18-point lead into half, but Wisconsin nearly completed a massive comeback courtesy of a 19-2 run. The Badgers’ sole senior, Tyler Wahl, led the comeback with 19 points, but late offensive struggles saw the Badgers’ push falter.
Wisconsin sweeps Minnesota behind dominant interior scoring for vital season-closing win
On the last day of regular season conference play, Wisconsin (17-13, 9-11 Big Ten) traveled to Minnesota (8-21, 2-17) for the second Border Battle of the season. Badgers complete season sweep of Iowa for much-needed win
On a blizzardy evening in Madison, Wisconsin (16-11, 8-9 Big Ten) took down Iowa (17-11, 9-8) in a Big Ten showdown that proved crucial for the Badgers, who were in dire need of a win to attempt to secure a bid in the NCAA Tournament. The Badgers’ star freshman Connor Essegian lifted the team to a win with 17 points, accompanied by 12 from Chucky Hepburn and a double-double from Tyler Wahl in a much-improved offensive showing at home.
Badgers heat up in final minutes, unable to close out yet another close game
Bench players showed out for Wisconsin, but Rutgers bested the Badgers in heartbreaking fashion. The Wisconsin Badgers (15-11, 7-9 Big Ten) played host to Rutgers (17-10, 9-7) in the only matchup between these two teams this season — and just the 12th meeting all-time. Conveniently, the rematch took place on Valentine’s Day, certainly with hopes that the loving spirit would keep nerves calm as the Badgers emerged victorious again this time, 64-59.
Wisconsin fumbles 17 point lead, fail to close out Cornhuskers in overtime
In a road game crucial for tournament hopes, Wisconsin scored just once in overtime to lose at Nebraska. The whole season, coach Greg Gard and the Wisconsin men’s basketball team have been playing with fate. Out of the 23 games played prior to Feb. 11, 14 of those games have been decided by five or less points — the most in the country.
Offensive struggles disappear as Badgers pull through for crucial Big Ten road win
Wisconsin completed a regular season sweep of Penn State with a gritty overtime win on the road. As temperatures in Madison began to thaw out the snow, the Badgers’ basketball team seemed to thaw out their offense on Wednesday night. Offensive woes continue to plague Wisconsin in another close home loss
In front of an electric Kohl Center crowd, the Badgers fell to Northwestern, unable to avenge their loss earlier in the season. In a rematch of the rescheduled loss at the end of January, Wisconsin (13-10, 5-7 Big Ten) welcomed the Northwestern Wildcats (17-7, 7-5) to the Kohl Center for a Sunday evening duel. The possibility of missing March Madness tournament bids loomed large for both teams.

It’s been seven games since Greg Gard coached a fully healthy Badger basketball team. In that span, Wisconsin won just twice, both three point wins over Minnesota and Penn State. But, he had his full arsenal to utilize against Illinois (15-6, 6-4 Big Ten) in the first game at the Kohl Center since students returned from winter break.
Badgers unable to break out of mid-season funk, lose fifth of last six
In a rematch of Wisconsin’s first Big Ten win this season, Maryland took revenge and bested the Badgers in College Park. Devastating mid-season funks strike countless teams throughout the college basketball world every year. Each fanbase hopes their team can avoid dangerous skids in the thick of the season. Unfortunately for Wisconsin, the funk has hit hard in the form of injuries, inconsistencies, and most importantly, losing.
Badgers fall on the road in rescheduled game against Northwestern
Wisconsin dropped yet another close game on the front end of a three-day road trip with yet another starter injured. A pattern seems to be emerging for the Badgers this season. In every game that a typical starter is injured, Wisconsin (12-6, 4-4 Big Ten) loses. Unfortunately, the pattern was further reinforced on Monday night in Evanston, as Coach Greg Gard’s team dropped another tight game, this time to Northwestern (13-5, 4-3) by a score of 66-63.
Badgers get back in win column with close victory over Penn State at home
Wahl returns, Crowl dominates as the Badgers end a three-game skid and reset with a tight home win over Penn State. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. But if it is broken, then something has to change. For Wisconsin (12-5, 4-3 Big Ten), changes finally came in the form of uniforms, lineups and availability. Although not easily, these changes resulted in an outcome fans have not seen in almost three weeks — a win.
Wisconsin lose third straight to Indiana, continue to slide down Big Ten
In their third straight game without Tyler Wahl, the Badgers failed to win without their star yet again, this time losing against Indiana. While there are no excuses to explain three straight losses, the gap that Tyler Wahl’s absence has left is undoubtedly growing by the game. On Saturday, Wisconsin’s leading scorer sat for the third straight game, and Wisconsin failed to produce a solid performance without him yet again, losing in Indiana 63-45.
