1 Introduction Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease resulting from insulin resistance and inadequate insulin secretion, and it is considered one of the most significant epidemics of this century. The increasing prevalence of Type 2 DM contributes to higher rates of morbidity and mortality (Cho et al. 2018; Lin et al. 2020; World Health Organization (WHO) 2020).
