1. Introduction Today, a tremendous amount of data is generated from massively distributed smart devices that comprise the Internet of Things (IoT). The International Data Corporation (IDC) has projected that the digital data volume will surge from the 33 zettabytes in 2018 to 175 zettabytes by 2025 [1]. In contemporary implementations of IoT applications, most data requiring storage, analysis, and decision-making are typically transmitted to cloud-based data centres [2].
