1 Introduction PVDF is a polymer of the molecule vinylidene fluoride (VDF) (IUPAC: 1,1-difluoroethene). Upon polymerization, this gives rise to a saturated carbon chain with two fluorine atoms and two hydrogen atoms attached to alternating carbon atoms. Since fluorine is highly electronegative compared to hydrogen, each monomeric unit has a net dipole moment due to the shifting of the electron cloud towards the fluorine atoms [1].
