Abstract Gradient elution chromatography is an effective separation technique for resolving complex mixtures with improved resolution and reduced analysis time compared with isocratic operation. In this study, an isothermal two-dimensional non-equilibrium kinetic model is developed for liquid chromatography under solvent gradient conditions.

In gradient chromatography, the mobile phase composition is progressively altered to regulate the propagation rates of the injected mixture components. Resultantly, improved separation of mixture components can be attained, the recycling time that must pass between two consecutive injections can be reduced, and, hence, the column’s efficiency and selectivity can be enhanced.
