Dr. Shane Tilton is the former Irene Casteel Endowed Chair for Education, Professional, and Social Sciences and an Associate Professor of Writing and Multimedia Studies at the Ohio Northern University. Tilton serves as a Fellow for the Ohio Northern University Institute for Civic and Public Policy and the advisor of Polar Media (Northern Review, WONB Radio, and ONU3-TV). Ohio Northern University is a great school with great professors, facilities, and overall atmosphere. Especially in the majors of Writing and Multimedia Studies, English, and Communication, the overall spirit of the Ohio Northern University student body is strong. However, I have a very unique experience that some folks at the Northern Review team (of which I used to be a member) thought would be interesting to share.

The Roaring 20s: famous for flappers, speakeasies, and rampant mariticide. From 1920-1929, 169 husbands were murdered by their wives. Even after the 19th Amendment’s ratification, it was commonplace to think of a wife as a mere extension of the husband’s property. Though women were increasingly realizing and exercising their autonomy, they found that the ever-closing walls of marriage restricted their movement.

How to access mental health resources at ONU

The Ohio Northern University Counseling Center, a student service offered for free in years past, began charging for service at the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year after partnering with Mercy Health. The Counseling Center is the most well-known mental health service on campus. The center offers long-term and short-term care, diagnostic services, outreach, and teletherapy, among other means of mental health care.
