You break it, you buy it
I am sure all of us have seen a sign in a store that said “You break it, you buy it,” or it said something similar. I remember once being in one with a 2 year old and a 13 year old in a shop full of fragile glass figurines. What could go wrong? I always hated to see those signs, especially when the kids were with me. I always was afraid that I would end up buying something that I didn’t want. I know I don’t want to buy something broken. Most likely if it were broken it would be worthless.

Rhino Man
Rhinos are being killed everyday for sport. Such is the topic of this documentary which exposes a committed group of field rangers who are trained to stop poachers from murdering more animals. In one insightful monologue, one of the characters looks over a horn, lamenting the remainder of the creature that has been left to decay in its absence. Elsewhere, young men go through tremendous physical upheavals to prepare themselves for the day they face a foe.
Actions louder than words
Have you ever fallen asleep and when you woke up you discovered someone had covered you with a blanket? Ever been hungry and someone got you something to eat without being asked? Did you ever have one of those days when everything just seemed to go wrong? Did you make the mistake of saying what next, thinking nothing else could go wrong or that the worst had already happened only to find that you were so wrong.

About Dry Grasses (Kuru Otlar Üstüne)
Samet (Deniz Celiloglu) is a art teacher in the local school, in a village in Eastern Anatolia. He wants to leave these godforsaken places and move to Istanbul. He shares an apartment with another young teacher – Kenan (Musab Ekici), with whom he develops a difficult relationship, mostly based on competition (around small and big things alike). Samet has a secret love. He flirts with 14-year-old Sevim (Ece Bagci) and even gives her a symbolic gift.
Do your part
I am sure you have heard the name George Jones. I hate to disappoint you, but is is not the George Jones the country singer. I worked with George in Winchester, Virginia. He was a courier where I used to work. George was a gentle and humble man, a man of few words. He was a very nice and kind person. I never heard him be condescending or say a bad word about anyone. He was always calm never raised his voice. He never spoke about religion but the peace of God seemed to be on him. He always had a smile.
Are There Two Americas?
“A generation which ignores history has no past — and no future.” – Robert Heinlein. After a long summer and autumn of marches, riots, burning, looting, intemperate language, political violence, monuments defaced, statues toppled, streets, parks, schools and everything from rice to pancake mixes to professional sports teams being rewritten, renamed, and rebranded, we might have expected a reaction.
Heritage Hatred Syndrome
If you live in the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area you have likely noticed the cultural revolution taking place as this is “Ground Zero” for the massive societal change which has erupted over the past year in the wake of everything from the COVID-19 economic shutdown to the riots this past summer and fall in response to the death of Minneapolis resident George Floyd.
Un-Unprecedented Times
The national presidential election has come and gone and as this is written most Americans still do not know who will be sworn in as the President of the United States of America on January 20, 2021. The reason for this uncertainty is due to documented cases of fraud knowing to occur in the past in the same areas where it is now suspected. But for those of us who recall our history, this is not “unprecedented,” as many are fond of saying.
The Folly of Judging the Past
Today’s Middle Class American of all sexes, all races, all ethnicities, all creeds, and all family backgrounds—whether their ancestors sailed to these shores on the Mayflower centuries ago, or flew into the United States on an immigrant visa a decade ago—are all stunned by the anti-Christian, anti-Western, and anti-American revolution now currently in progress.
Defending History
To the average, normal, everyday American who has been competently educated in world history and has a passing familiarity with the past, certain phrases mean certain things. In the last several decades, unfortunately, the Cultural Marxists in our education establishment, entertainment industry, news media, and Big Tech, have turned the language upside down. I recall the forces of The Left labeling Richard Nixon a “racist.” And Ronald Reagan. And both Presidents; Bush the Elder and the Younger.
Defending History
I’ve always been interested in history. History is the foundational root of everything we are aware of in the present. How agriculture and animal husbandry evolved. How medicine came to be practiced. How law was established. How education was transmitted and conveyed. How military tactics, operations, and strategy came to be known. How the empirical scientific method grew out of superstition and witchcraft.
If You Think the Subject is Confederate Generals, You’re Wrong
or, Revisiting the Erasure of History Language, flags, heroes, and symbols – as well as the forcible changing of these things – express who is in charge and what the nation stands for. ~ Christopher Roach[1] Five years ago, I wrote about California Democratic Party State Senator Steve Glazer’s campaign to erase the history of the short-lived Confederate States of America (and its nascent attempt to establish itself through the unquestioned valor of generals such as Robert E.
To stay or not to stay? Proposed exclusions from the ‘ipso facto’ reform | Lexology
The Australian Government Treasury (Treasury) has released the long awaited exposure drafts and explanatory statements in respect of the types of arrangements that are to be excluded from the moratorium (or ‘stay’) on reliance by solvent counterparties on ‘ipso facto’ clauses (ipso facto reform). Public consultation in respect of the proposed exclusions is open until 11 May 2018.
Finance Bill 2017 - Key Commercial Property Measures
Budget 2018 was announced on 10 October 2017 and details of the key property measures were set out here. While the Finance Bill 2017 has put some flesh on the bones, we await further legislation for detail of certain other key commercial property measures announced in Budget 2018.
Shelter from the storm is near - An update on the director safe harbour / ipso facto regime
The Senate Economics Legislation Committee has recommended that the Treasury Laws Amendment (2017 Enterprise Incentives No. 2) Bill 2017 (Bill) which provides a ‘safe harbour’ defence and automatic stays on certain ipso facto clauses be passed. We expect that the Bill will be passed by Parliament this year, giving company directors more flexibility when dealing with financial distress.
Achieving port in an insolvency storm - stays in a safe harbour?
The government has released draft legislation reforming insolvency laws to create a ‘safe harbour’ defence for directors faced with an insolvent trading claim, together with a statutory stay on the enforcement of ipso facto clauses when a party to a contract enters a formal administration process. This is good news for company directors and delivers on industry calls for law reform.
