Every person is different, and being in a relationship often means navigating and compromising on those differences. Though we frequently highlight the gross or irritating things men do that women find revolting, we rarely stop to ask whether men experience similar feelings about their female partners’ habits. If you take a look online, however, hundreds of men have been ranting about the moments when their partners’ behaviour left them exasperated or even disgusted.

“Can something be described as beautiful if no one ever sees it?” was the question that sparked a series of performances in which Oliver Jeffers dipped his fully painted portraits into vats of enamel paint, a process that permanently obscures parts of each portrait’s features. The idea emerged quite by accident when, a year after an early dipping experiment, he compared his memory of a painting with a photograph of the original and found that the two did not match.

There’s something utterly glorious about the moment karma finally catches up with someone for their behaviour. Willfully ignoring bad precedents doesn’t erase the problem or prevent the inevitable backlash.
