Shaun Deeb: Letter to My Younger Self
If you could write a letter to your younger self, what would it say? This week, Shaun Deeb has a word with himself... Dear Shaun, You’re just starting out in poker but you’re really not good enough to beat the games. You’re just lucky that the games you’re playing are really soft. But get real. You aren’t winning nearly as much as you think you are. And you’re definitely not nearly as good as you think you are. You’re an absolute fish, tbh. Really? Yes. You are.

15:30 26 Feb Shaun Deeb and Bill Perkins' Unconventional Wager Nearly 11 months ago, poker star Shaun Deeb and hedge fund manager Bill Perkins embarked on an unusual fitness prop bet. The terms were simple but challenging—Deeb had to reduce his body fat to 17% by the start of the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP), or lose $100,000. However, if successful, Deeb stood to win $1 million at 10:1 odds. The poker community was skeptical, with more than half predicting Deeb's failure.

Kitty Kuo Seeks a BF, Shaun Deeb Suggests Fat Lazy American
07:48 02 Aug With the WSOP concluded, it appears that Kitty Kuo has her mind on other pursuits. The Natural8 ambassador let it be known via social media that she's holding auditions for a new boyfriend. For those interested in applying, however, there are a number of parameters to be followed. While those requirements appear to perhaps be more suited for fulfillment by a male escort than a boyfriend, a later tweet by Kuo was even more stringent with regard to her finding a perfect mate.

PN Blog: Losing Your Poker Bankroll Without Losing Your Mind
"I'm sorry sir, this card has been declined." A look of confusion spread across my face. It was only a two hundred dollar transaction, and this was my card for my main bank account which had well over that. It was a little after midnight in Orlando and I had just arrived at the car rental agency after a long day of flying from Punta Cana. "Huh, that's weird," I stated as I took my card back and began to think of what to do in the suddenly awkward situation.

Playing the Player: Going for Value in a NL Cash Game
Today I have another cash game hand to discuss, again from a $5/$10 no-limit hold'em cash game played last summer during the World Series of Poker. It folded to me on the button where I'd been dealt and I opened for $30. Those who play live NL cash games know players tend to open-raise varying amounts, sometimes quite big. I discuss that topic briefly in the video, and cover it in greater detail in my newest book, Mastering Small Stakes No-Limit Hold'em.

The Muck: Trash Talk Ahead of King of the Hill 2; Baby Mercier Arrives
It's been a tough week for poker players. Whether you call Las Vegas home or travel to the city to play cards, the events of this past Sunday touched a little too close to home. 'Groan Folding' In Live Poker
Do you ever know that you should fold in a live poker tournament and then don't? We all know about the "crying call." I suggest adding the "groan fold" to your arsenal. That's when you use the groan to distract your sense of injustice while your fingers flick your cards towards the muck before they get a hold of your chips. I recently had an opportunity to exercise this little known poker technique. In a $1,000 live tournament a tight passive player had limped in from early position.

Navigating Top Pair with a Bad Kicker Blind Versus Blind
This week's hand is an interesting one that came early in a $7,500 buy-in World Poker Tour event — a deep-stacked, blind-versus-blind hand in which I had to deal with being out of position and facing postflop pressure from my opponent. The blinds were 100/200 with a 25 ante, and it folded to me in the small blind where I had about 26,000 and was dealt . I chose to limp, something I've begun doing more often with a wide range versus competent opponents in the big blind.
Hand Analysis: Daniel Negreanu vs. Johnny Chan on 'Poker After Dark'
After vlogging his away through the 2017 World Series of Poker, Daniel Negreanu has returned to his YouTube channel to mark this week's relaunch of Poker After Dark — by PokerCentral on PokerGO — by reliving an interesting PAD cash game hand between himself and Johnny Chan. The game was $100/$200 NL, and in the hand Johnny Chan opened with a raise holding , Negreanu called with , and Patrik Antonius came along as well from the blinds.
Poker Leaderboards and Player of the Year: What's the Point?
Recent opinions on the WSOP 2017 Player of the Year (POY) have been wide ranging to say the least. It seems that creating a system that properly balances the skill and luck components of a poker event is not easy. Throw in the fact that you need to make the system straightforward and easy for people to understand, and it becomes a daunting task indeed.
What Not to Do Online: Relative vs. Absolute Hand Strength at 100NL
The following hand really happened, in the ether of the internet, where the egos of the sedentary clash to no end. The game was $0.50/$1 no-limit hold'em, six-handed (100NL). The effective stacks for the players involved were deep — about 170 big blinds. The cutoff opened the pot to $3, then the button three-bet to $9. The blinds folded and the cutoff called, and the flop came . One would think the cutoff could have many of the strongest hands here, including , , , and -suited.

Moving to a Foreign Country for Online Poker or Sports Betting: The New Normal?
When 'Black Friday' rocked the online gaming world to its core back in 2011, poker novice and avid traveler Kristin Wilson found a silver lining. As an expat residing in Costa Rica – the unofficial capital of offshore gaming at the time – she had a unique perspective on the situation: "I remember poring over the DOJ report. All I could think was – it could be years until this mess is sorted. People will need to leave the US to get back online, but how would they know what to do?
