Seismic Bearing Capacity and Failure Pattern of Strip Footings on C- Soils with Single and Double Underground Voids

ABSTRACT In this study, the seismic and static bearing capacity of a strip footing placed underlain by unsupported single and double voids in C-φ soils is investigated using the Finite Element Limit Analysis (FELA) method. Using a parametric study, the effect of a set of factors such as soil cohesion, internal friction angle, soil heterogeneity, distance between voids and footing, depth of voids, geometry and size of voids is evaluated by considering different earthquake accelerations.
