NEW YORK Luigi Mangione will not face the death penalty over charges of stalking and fatally shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in late 2024, a federal judge ruled Friday. U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett dismissed two counts in a federal indictment against Mangione, ruling that the governments charge that Mangione stalked Thompson did not meet the legal definition of being a crime of violence, a requirement for death-penalty eligible charges.
