Sheeka is a freelance travel journalist and video director/producer. She covers the US American South, sustainable travel, history and culture, family and ancestry travel, and outdoor activities.

Sheeka was a McCormick scholar at Northwestern University, where she earned her Master's degree from Medill's Media Strategy and Leadership program. She received her Bachelor's degree in Broadcast News from the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism.

What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a TV reporter and anchor for WMAZ in Macon, GA.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, and I own one now!

How is social media changing news?

Everyone is a reporter now, but we still need people to verify and contextualize what's happening.
