What was your first job as a journalist?
I worked as a call screener for newsradio.
How is social media changing news?
People are getting their news on social media first. This isn't bad, it just changes how we do things.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Rory Gilmore. I love the show, and I relate to Rory. :)
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Holding truth to power.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I like an email. I only work weekends right now, so emails are a great way for me to check in as I can during the week.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
AP ENPS, Microsoft Office
What's your favorite social network?
Instagram. I love pictures, videos, and reels. TikTok is a close second.
Why did you become a journalist?
I wanted to help people. I knew the power and responsibility of the media. I wanted to make a difference in my community and elevate voices.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Stay focused on what's important. Be there for your community.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime is good. I check emails several times a day!
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
I don't think I've ever got a bad pitch. Maybe one that wasn't for me. But they weren't bad.
What's your favorite drink?
Red Bull. I know, I know, it's "bad for you." Well, I am tired.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
On my back porch or in the woods. I love nature!
