I read this for a book club discussion. I enjoyed the book, but the book discussion centered on the negative or stereotypical way the author portrays African American as opposed to her Nigerian characters. I got that.

I didn’t grow up in this house since my father was in the military. But when my dad retired, we moved to Arkansas, which is where both my parents are from. I lived in this house from my senior year in high school until I graduated college with a 4-and-a-half-year bachelor’s degree. Then I got married and moved away. It’s an old house in rural Arkansas, a two-bedroom adapted to a three-bedroom by making the dining room a master bedroom. My parents have lived here for over forty years.
