Most of us know, gratitude is something to cultivate. The reality is, few of us engage in a regular exercise of this discipline, and our society is all the poorer for it. We do not count our blessings, but man do we hyperfixate on our trials. For a while, I did a weekly examination of my life, looking to see how things had changed and grown over the course of seven days, but fell out of the habit.

Today I am sixty. I am not out of experience, so I must still have stories I need to integrate into my soul, things I need to share. The flatness of the writing process for me right now indicates, I need to tread new paths. Over this weekend, I’ve written four thousand plus words and deleted  all but these because the ones before didn’t wander enough to bring me somewhere I needed to be but didn’t know before. Where do I need to go and why? I started writing back in 2004, as a lark.

For Those Getting Married

This photo is of my parents, taken on their trip to the Holy Lands. The picture is more than a meditation, it is a manifestation of what was taking place back in their lives. My dad suffered from Alzheimer’s, and my mother cared for him. It was part of the final journeying of their marriage –he stopped being able to travel not too long after that, and later needed to be at a home because Mom could not manage all his needs. He fell at the home, and went to a rehabilitation center.
