Melasma is a common dermatitis characterized by brown-colored hyperpigmented areas, found mainly on sun-exposed parts of the face and around the neck. The pathology of melasma is still unclear. However, the causes are likely ultraviolet (UV) exposure, hormonal imbalance, thyroid disease, contraceptive pills, irrational use of cosmetics, and phototoxic drugs.
