1 Introduction Sarcopenia is characterized by a loss of muscle mass and an impairment of muscle strength or physical performance [1]. The definition of sarcopenia has evolved because of ongoing research on screening tools and the creation of simplified diagnostic algorithms and clinical guidelines by various international organizations. As awareness of this condition has increased, clinical diagnoses have also risen [2]. The prevalence of sarcopenia increases with age.
