Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become the most prevalent chronic liver condition worldwide, encompassing a broad disease spectrum ranging from simple hepatic steatosis with or without mild inflammation (non-alcoholic fatty liver) to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Over the past two decades, the global incidence of NAFLD has risen steadily and is projected to make it one of the leading causes of end-stage liver disease and hepatic failure in the coming decades.
