A history of OA was present in 14 (35.9%), 11 (29.0%), and 26 (83.9%) of patients in the no irAE, irAE non-arthritis, and irAE-arthritis groups, respectively (χ² p<0.001). To determine if the association between OA and irAE-arthritis was limited to older patients, we conducted a stratified analysis using age ≥65 years as a cut-off. Although the overall OA prevalence was lower in patients younger than 65, the association between a history of OA and irAE-arthritis persisted (figure 1C).

Paired to that, and despite a decade of research, approaches to treat autoimmunity with PD-1 agonists still need to be more successful. To resolve this, new methods must be developed to augment PD-1 function beyond engaging the receptor.
