1 Introduction Glaucoma is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by the progressive loss of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and their axons, leading to irreversible vision impairment and blindness. Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) is one of the significant risk factors for glaucoma. Currently, the only proven and widely accepted form of treatment to prevent the progression of glaucoma is lowering IOP.
