1 Introduction C2 pedicle screw (C2PS) placement is a critical component of posterior fixation at the craniovertebral junction. In 2001, Harms and Melcher, building on the technique of Goel and Laheri, introduced an atlantoaxial posterior screw-rod fixation and fusion technique that established the C2 pedicle screw as the gold standard for C2 fixation [1, 2]. The C2PS traverses all three columns of C2, providing strong fixation strength and reduction capability.

1 Introduction Melatonin is a multifunctional indoleamine that plays a central role in circadian regulation, neuroendocrine signalling and cellular homeostasis within the central nervous system [1, 2]. Beyond its systemic secretion by the pineal gland, melatonin is also synthesized locally in the brain, where it exerts both receptor-dependent and receptor-independent actions [1, 3].
