1 INTRODUCTION Seed dormancy is an important adaptation strategy for numerous plant species to coordinate germination and establishment with the environment (Baskin & Baskin, 2014; Thompson & Grime, 1979). Generally, dormancy is controlled by both internal and external factors, and is one of the important life history features of plants, enabling them to cope with the cyclic and fluctuating environmental conditions (Finch-Savage & Leubner-Metzger, 2006).
