Abstract The anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in magnetic systems is typically governed by symmetry constraints that require the Hall response to be proportional to the out-of-plane magnetization component. Here we demonstrate the emergence of an unconventional in-plane AHE in a low-dimensional heterostructure. By interfacing a low-symmetry topological semimetal with a ferromagnetic insulator, we realize a system with reduced symmetry in which only a single mirror plane is preserved.

Abstract The additional layer degree of freedom in trilayer moiré superlattices of transition metal dichalcogenides enables the emergence of novel excitonic species, such as quadrupolar excitons, which exhibit unique excitonic interactions and hold promise for realizing intriguing excitonic phases and their quantum phase transitions.

Van der Waals heterostructures have recently emerged as an exciting platform for investigating the effects of strong electronic correlations, including various forms of magnetic or electrical orders. Here, we perform an unbiased exact diagonalization study of the effects of interactions on topological flat bands of twisted transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) at odd integer fillings.
