Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
Writing and editing copy for a regional paper.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes. I go way back and the typewriter was all I had for a few years.
How is social media changing news?
Social media provides another way for journalists to get alerted to breaking stories as they happen - from people who are on the spot.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means being responsible for delivering news people can trust.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Feedly, Scrivener, Windows Live Writer, Google Docs, Google Search and a few source books.
What's your favorite social network?
Probably Twitter
Why did you become a journalist?
Because I'm insatiably curious and love sharing what I learn.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I edited my high-school newspaper and wrote the editorials.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
An old story on a youth project that netted our magazine a Race in the Media Award, and a new in-depth one on finding blog post images.
