The American Federation for Clinical Research (AFCR) was founded in 1940 with the purpose of offering young researchers an opportunity to present their findings to peers and receive guidance and mentorship from senior scientists. 1 AFCR promoted a multidisciplinary and translational approach to medical research. During the 1960s, the AFCR participated in public policy activities and offered advice regarding federal funding for medical research.
