Champion the African Diaspora? She Wears It, Too. Original
Champion the African Diaspora? She Wears It, Too. Oct. 20, 2026, 9:00 a.m. ET “I have Nigerian sensibilities, so we dress up,” Eva Omaghomi said on a recent Friday in October. “We are not, in my experience, known for being shy.” Omaghomi, 48, was moving regally when I spotted her outside the newly opened St. Clement hotel in London. She was draped in a dress from the Cloth, a brand from Trinidad and Tobago, and a coat by Marrakshi Life.
Perfectly at Home in a Travel Outfit
Perfectly at Home in a Travel Outfit Oct. 13, 2026, 9:00 a.m. ET “My love for fashion has been with me since I was a child,” Giovanna Ciampitti said in Italian. “There isn’t one specific thing driving it — it’s really about love for myself and dressing up.” I spotted Ciampitti on a Friday in early October standing on a train platform with matching yellow suitcases at Gatwick Airport, outside London.
How to Look Cool in Paris
Paris Fashion Week brought to mind a word with French origins, borrowed by English speakers: rapport. It describes a friendly relationship, a middle ground where different ideals can meet and understand each other in good faith. Over the past several days, opposing schools of fashion cool converged on runways and in the streets. Sometimes, the two sides managed to meet. At one end were ideas of beauty and optimism. Floral motifs and buoyant colors gave looks a feeling of freedom and freshness.
The Jackson 5? Look Again (and Check Your Math).
The Jackson 5? Look Again (and Check Your Math). Sept. 29, 2026, 9:00 a.m. ET “My inspirations are mainly from the ’70s in Africa — Ivory Coast or Senegal,” William Broux said when I stopped him and his friends near Fort Greene Park on a Saturday in late August.
The first days of fall are often a fun time to see how people get creative when confronted with the need to wear more clothes. Since the fashion calendar begins in New York in early September — technically still summer — we don’t tend to get a glimpse of what that looks like until London Fashion Week, which is usually cooler. On the street, there were a variety of jackets — sleek, billowy, technical — that were also functional for wind and rain.
Stepping Out in Secondhand, and Deciding to ‘Slouch It a Little’
Stepping Out in Secondhand, and Deciding to ‘Slouch It a Little’ Sept. 22, 2026, 9:00 a.m. ET “I’m in love with button-up shirts,” Yacine Ndaw, 29, said on a Saturday in late August near Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn. “I just love feeling like business and buttoning to the top. But today I said, Let me slouch it a little.
Structure and Slink in the City
In just about every direction at New York Fashion Week, there were subtle lessons in geometry. Deep V-necks that created stark triangular shapes; cutouts and keyholes that exposed precise peeks of skin. Asymmetrical pieces of fabric were layered onto other asymmetric pieces of fabric, creating shapes delightfully akimbo. Suddenly, an outfit is an icebreaker, a conversation piece. The wearers also seemed to be having fun, too.
Summer Berries, Worn in the Park
Summer Berries, Worn in the Park Sept. 15, 2026, 9:00 a.m. ET “I want to be out on the streets of New York: healthy, ready to move, hop on a Citi Bike, change plans at any moment, go anywhere,” said Kelsey Haskins, 50. She was certainly dressed for flexibility, wearing biker shorts under her dress, which made her feel equally ready for a nice restaurant and a yoga class.
‘Put Together, a Little Sporty’
‘Put Together, a Little Sporty’ Sept. 8, 2026, 9:00 a.m. ET “First and foremost, it’s always comfort for me,” Mollie Levy said as she carried Tony, her 3-year-old dog, in a tote that matched her outfit when the two set off for Happier Grocery to buy items for dinner. “But also put together, a little sporty.” I spotted the pair on Broome Street in the New York neighborhood of SoHo on a Wednesday evening in August, just as the commuter rush began to die down.
A First Time Out in Clothes That Have Been Around the Block
A First Time Out in Clothes That Have Been Around the Block Sept. 1, 2026, 9:00 a.m. ET “I know I look good in it,” Morten Langhoff said of his Prohibition-era ensemble. But as he and his partner, Hannes Allin, made their way to a vintage-dress party at the Flatiron bar in Copenhagen, Langhoff hastened to clarify that the clothes were only clothes.
A T-Shirt That’s Both a Conversation Piece and a ‘Badge of Honor’
A T-Shirt That’s Both a Conversation Piece and a ‘Badge of Honor’ Aug. 25, 2026, 9:00 a.m. ET “The more thoughtful you are in your dress, the more conversations you might have,” Kimberly Drew said of using clothing as a social facilitator. She motioned to her black T-shirt from the Million Woman March of 1997 — a gift from her mother. “I just got this shirt and it’s like a badge of honor,” she said.
Trekking Gear for an Urban Explorer Who Doesn’t Overthink His Look Original
Trekking Gear for an Urban Explorer Who Doesn’t Overthink His Look Aug. 18, 2026, 9:00 a.m. ET “I never find a shirt new that I really like,” Anders Vogt, 56, said of his preference for shopping secondhand and vintage for button-ups.
It's Hot. They're Cool. Why Not Wear Flip-Flops?
(Style Outside) When did flip-flops become fashionable? The question was on my mind on a recent flight, as I sat behind three young women who boarded the plane carrying brand-new flip-flops still bound together by a plastic loop. They tucked them into the rear-seat pockets as essential items. In Copenhagen, Denmark, for fashion week this past week, I saw countless others wearing flip-flops in settings where they would have been considered taboo not too long ago.
Sneakers Made Him Feel ‘Like a Superhero’ Original
“When I create, I feel like a child,” said Salehe Bembury, a footwear designer who lives in New York. “When we’re kids, we’re able to express ourselves with way more color.” Bembury, 40, is a regular presence at fashion shows around the world, where he often stands out for what might be considered eccentric workwear: a balance of vibrancy and utility that has started to gain more traction in men’s wear in recent years.

Not Quite Boulders, but These Accessories Have Real Heft Original
“I’m not interested in looking young — just looking good,” Pauline Harris, 62, said on a recent Friday afternoon in July. “It means putting your best self out there. If you’re going to get dressed in the morning, why not put some effort in?” I spotted Harris in the Marylebone district of London looking quite casual and relaxed in a lavender linen jumpsuit and some large-framed sunglasses — a simple look that was supercharged by statement accessory pieces on her neck, ears and one wrist.
Creating a 1970s Fantasy on the Cheap Original
“I’m quite fortunate to enjoy the ’70s men’s wear because very few other people do,” James Rutherford said when I met him near the Blackfriars station of the London Underground, a stone’s throw from the Thames. He was wearing a vintage brown suit that he said he had found on eBay.
Homemade Swag to Root, Root, Root for the Away Team Original
Homemade Swag to Root, Root, Root for the Away Team July 14, 2026, 9:00 a.m. ET “I was thinking for a long time — like, two or three months,” Tomoyo Tanaka-Ito, 64, said when I asked about the custom Senegalese-flag shirts she and her husband were wearing at Senegal’s World Cup match against France last month.
Looks as Extreme as the Paris Heat Original
For its recent couture show in Paris, Dior transformed the sculpture garden of the Musée Rodin into an open-air pavilion lined with huge tree ferns. Under the roof, the air was surprisingly cool, and as the show began, a gentle breeze ruffled the space. As I photographed the models walking down the runway, I kept thinking about flow as an answer to oppressive heat. The summer edition of haute couture isn’t for the faint of heart.

(Style Outside) PARIS -- For its recent show here, Dior reimagined the sculpture garden of the Musée Rodin as an open-air pavilion lined with huge tree ferns. As the show began, a gentle breeze ruffled the space; as I photographed the models walking down the runway, I kept thinking about flow as an answer to oppressive heat. The summer edition of haute couture isn't for the faint of heart. It's always hot outside, and heading indoors seldom provides much relief.

16 Countries Whose Fans Left It All on the Pitch
Before the FIFA World Cup first descended on the United States, in the summer of 1994, soccer was chiefly available to Americans in the form of posters, magazines and video games. U.S.A. ’94 brought us football in the flesh. But that year’s tournament had another important effect: merging the love of soccer with the love of fashion — passions that, at least in America, had never been truly melded.

Soccer Fans Kick Off the World Cup in Style
(Style Outside) It's easy to forget that the United States and Paraguay have the same national colors. So imagine showing up to a FIFA World Cup match being reminded not just of that, but also of both nations' affinities for the red and white stripes.
A Workaday One-Piece Embroidered With Tiny Tributes Original
A Workaday One-Piece Embroidered With Tiny Tributes June 16, 2026, 9:00 a.m. ET “Jumpsuits are very S.F.; they’re very comfy,” said Udani Satarasinghe, who called the garments “high look, low effort.” “The embroidery on it is actually symbolic of the Bay Area,” she added, pointing to a small suspension bridge stitched into the leg of her own suit.
What U.S. and Paraguay Fans Have in Common Original
It’s easy to forget that the United States and Paraguay have the same national colors. So imagine showing up to a FIFA World Cup match being reminded not just of that, but also of both nations' affinities for the red and white stripes. If you aren’t an aficionado of the international jerseys — not just of today, but also some past versions of the jerseys — it might look as though everyone at Los Angeles Stadium (SoFi’s name through the World Cup) were rooting for the same team on Friday.
These Knicks Fans Show Out in Style
They want to show their pride, yes, of course. But they’re not willing to squelch their sense of style entirely. This is New York after all, a city that attracts characters like rats to a slice of pizza. And so, as the Knicks have barreled through the N.B.A. playoffs, the city has been coated in orange and blue. Beyond that committed color scheme, though, just about anything goes.

Ribbon From Mom’s Closet, Pinstripes From London June 9, 2026, 9:00 a.m. ET “I’m tall, so I like wearing low-waisted pants because I feel like they fit my figure,” Ishika Gobin said. She had found the chocolate-colored pinstripe trousers in question on London’s famous Brick Lane, in a shop that she had heard counted Bella Hadid among its customers. At $200, they were a little pricey for Gobin, who was studying abroad at the time.

It originally existed as two skirts: She had seen the pattern years before and had been on the lookout to acquire something similar.

A Work-Wear Staple in Gentle Pastels
A Work-Wear Staple in Gentle Pastels April 28, 2026, 9:00 a.m. ET “I love one-piece dressing — this is my jam,” April Dinwoodie said of her chiffon jumpsuit. “I’m not great with making things happen, with tucking in shirts and all the things.” She was in spring pastels when our paths crossed in Harlem on a recent Saturday in April. As she excitedly showed off her new engagement ring to a friend on the stoop of a brownstone, I recognized her from a photo assignment back in 2020.
